Content Submission Guidelines

Umbrella Alliance is community-led. That means we want our community members to be heard. We invite you to submit your original content to be shared on our blog. Before submitting your content, please look at the guidelines below.

Who should submit content?

Neurodivergent individuals and our allies, ND or ND allied professionals sharing informed, affirming practices in

education
employment
healthcare
social protection

Note: We prioritise content from ND individuals.

What content is not accepted

We will not post anything that is not in alignment with our community values.

Anything that is discriminatory, instigative, or harmful will not be published.

Content that is overt self-promotion or that is promoting people, items, groups, or organisations that are not aligned with UA’s community values will not be published.

What type of content is accepted?

Submissions can be written, video, audio, or any combination of these.

Links are a great way to join your blog post with the rest of the ND online blogging community.

Feel free to include links to other relevant posts and materials.

Unique Content Requirements

Unique content that has not been published, and will not be published, on other publications is preferred

If you want to share content that you have or will share elsewhere, please provide an explanation for our consideration.
You may post your content on your own site with
- a statement that it is also posted on the Umbrella Alliance site
- a link to the post on the Umbrella Alliance site
- Example: This article <include link to article on UA site> was originally posted to Umbrella Alliance on 1/4/22.

The Specs

To ensure that the format of the content is consistent, submissions must follow these guidelines:

The main image for the blog must be no larger than 1200 x 628 pixels. Images within the blog can be of varied sizes/shapes.
Images must be supplied separately (not just embedded in the document)
Images must be named for their respective article (Mary’s story [Image name])
Images must include a description of what they are (alternative text)
Add sources at the end of the article ie links to where the image comes from.
Paragraphs must not be longer than 300 words
Utilise bullet points and/or “quotes” to break up the blocks of text
Add Headings & sub-headings to break up the text visually
At the end of your article, please provide links to sources/images

Guest Blog Submission FAQ

Q: What should I write about?

A: Anything that is relevant to the ND community is welcome.

Q: Can I post my articles on my own site or other sites?

A: You may post your content only on your own site.

Q: After my article is published on Umbrella Alliance’s site, can I post a teaser or a link to my own site?

A: Yes, we love it when you post a link to your guest post on your own website or social media accounts as soon as it is live.

Q: If I submit a guest post, is it guaranteed to get published?

A: We want to publish everything that we can, but we cannot guarantee that we will publish your guest post.

Q: What size do my images need to be:

A: For the featured image on a blog the ideal size is 1200 x 628 pixels, if your image is larger than this it will not display correctly.

We reserve the right to refuse to publish any submitted post; however, if we choose not to publish your material, you are welcome to make revisions or submit other content.
